Walking up to The Howey Hotel, I was surrounded by the hum of construction and honestly braced for the worst. From the outside, it looked a little rough around the edges—more “budget motel” than modern city stay. But the moment I stepped into the cozy, stylish lobby, I knew I had misjudged it. Small? Yes. Underwhelming? Absolutely not. My room was a well-balanced mix of functionality and flair. A pop of tangerine from the accent chair, modern artwork over the headboard, and a plush green lounge that practically whispered, “Kick your shoes off, you’ve earned it.” The vibe was tailored, clean, and clearly designed for business travellers who need a calm base near the CBD. Would I recommend it for a large family? Not quite. But if you're flying in for back-to-back meetings or a quick city trip, this place puts you steps away from Collins Street and a short stroll from everything else that matters. Now, while the hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant, it more than makes up for it with its prime location—there are heaps of great cafes just around the corner. Whether you’re chasing a flat white or a proper Melbourne brunch, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Bonus: the in-room amenities actually work, and work well—no fighting the coffee machine or chasing down an ironing board. Bottom line? Don’t let the scaffolding fool you. This hotel punches above its weight and delivers on comfort where it counts.

This is my second stay at the Howey this year, and again, enjoyed it maybe even more than the first. The room was very spacious for a couples weekend away in Melbourne, with easy access to everything the city has to offer, with melbournes lane ways just outside the hotels doors. Though there was construction in the area we could not hear a peep of it from our room on Level 8. Bed and bathroom were comfortable, with good water pressure and consistent temperature.

Professional and very friendly staff members who went out lf their way to make my stay memorable. Great location, very close to Bourke Street mall. Very accessible to restaurants and shopping - The Block Arcade, Royal Arcade, Flinders Lane, Emporium, QV, Melbourne Central etc. Good value for money. Love the separation of shower space and toilet space from the vanity unit. Huge TV screen. Comfy bed. Safe box. Nespresso coffee maker. Huge windows.

Quiet lane way hotel. Our room faced towards Swanston Street with views over neighboring rooftops. Received plenty of sunlight throughout the morning. Lovely staff. Plenty of space. Partner was able to work in both the room, and in the lobby with no issues (plenty of power points in both locations). Will be even better once cafe opens up.

The room I stayed in was perfect for one person as there was a lot of open space throughout the bathroom, bedroom, couch area. My favourite part was definitely the location, everything was within walking distance. The noise was minimal despite being in a central location, bed was incredibly comfy.
